I had a very similar cover on my Model X-P which fit in well with the surrounding carbon fiber trim. This one is not as heavy duty but it is well made to fit perfectly right out of the box. I've found you do not need to use the backing tape to keep it in place since the fit is custom. Once placed over the center console it stays in place without falling off. I leave the tape on but don't remove the red strip that reveals the adhesive as it is not really necessary and I suspect it would be more of a problem to properly align once the two sided tape is applied. Keep it simple and just put it in place and you'll be pleased with the result. I would have liked to have seen it a few mils thicker but it will likely last many years with no issues. I prefer the matt finish to the gloss since it hides scratches and looks like it's always been there (which I like).
