Tesla Officially Launches Model Y L with 6 Seats in China

Tesla recently launched a new version of the Model Y in China — the Model Y L. This model is now available on the Tesla China website's configuration tool. The Model Y L, with its extended wheelbase and six-seat layout, targets consumers who need more space, with a starting price of ¥339,000 (approximately $47,180 USD).

Key Features and Design Updates

Compared to the standard Model Y, the Model Y L has larger dimensions, with a 180mm increase in length, a 44mm increase in height, and a 150mm longer wheelbase, making it even longer than the Model X. These changes allow the Model Y L to provide a more spacious interior, capable of comfortably seating six adults. Tesla mentions that each seat offers ample legroom and supports electric adjustments and heating, with the second-row seats also equipped with electric armrests.

Additionally, noise insulation inside the vehicle has been optimized to reduce external noise, ensuring a quieter cabin environment. Notably, both the second and third-row seats are equipped with air conditioning vents, providing a more comfortable ride for all passengers during long trips. Both the second and third-row seats can also fold flat.

Range and Performance

The Model Y L offers impressive range. According to the official Tesla China configuration tool, its range can reach 751 kilometers (approximately 467 miles). This range is comparable to the standard Model Y Long Range AWD, but with a larger battery capacity, its overall performance is enhanced. In terms of acceleration, the Model Y L can go from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h.

Exterior and Interior Design and Features

The Model Y L also features subtle design changes, including unique 19-inch Mecha wheels with a star-like pattern. Additionally, a special "Starlight Gold" paint color is available for an extra ¥12,000, offering more personalization options.

Inside, the Model Y L currently only offers a "dark luxury interior" option, with Tesla planning to introduce a "light gray luxury interior" in the future. The cabin layout is minimalist, focusing on practicality and comfort, especially in the design of the seats and storage space, providing greater flexibility for consumers.

Price and Market Positioning

The Model Y L starts at ¥339,000, which is about $3,600 (approximately ¥25,000) more expensive than the current Model Y Long Range AWD. While it is priced higher, it remains competitive compared to other electric six-seat SUVs on the market, particularly in the Chinese market.

The expected delivery for the Model Y L will begin in September 2025, and this new product is likely to become a hot-seller in China, especially among consumers who need more interior space.
