Tesla China Records Highest 2025 Wholesale Sales with 83,192 Vehicles in August

Tesla had its best sales month of the year in China this August, selling 83,192 cars. That’s up 22.6% from July, when the company sold 67,886 vehicles. The jump shows a strong rebound in one of Tesla’s most important markets.

Sales were still slightly lower than last year. In August 2024, Tesla sold 86,697 cars in China. From January through August 2025, total sales reached 515,552, down 12.2% compared with the same period last year.

It’s worth noting that Tesla’s China wholesale figures include both domestic sales and exports. In August, the strong performance shows that the Shanghai Gigafactory is stabilizing in both local deliveries and exports. Shanghai also serves as Tesla’s main export hub.

Earlier this year, Tesla faced challenges. Production changes linked to the new Model Y slowed output in China, the U.S., and Europe. The brand also came under pressure from political controversies involving CEO Elon Musk and incidents at Tesla stores overseas.

Momentum picked up in the third quarter, helped by the launch of the Model Y L, a larger six-seat SUV designed for Chinese families. Early sales of the new model have been strong, and industry watchers expect it to boost growth in the coming months.

China is one of the world’s largest car market and remains central to Tesla’s global strategy. Government support for electric cars and growing consumer demand create big opportunities, though competition is tough.

August figures mark an important step forward for Tesla in a challenging market.
