Tesla is accelerating efforts to scale up production of its humanoid robot, Optimus, which Elon Musk says could become the company’s most significant product.
The project, first announced several years ago, gained major attention last year during Tesla’s “We, Robot” event, where Optimus served drinks, entertained guests, and interacted with attendees.
Technical Challenges:
Despite its public debut, Tesla has faced challenges in scaling the robot for mass production. Musk highlighted that creating nimble hands capable of threading a needle has been particularly difficult. Scaling overall manufacturing and refining production processes remain central hurdles.
Musk on Optimus’ Importance:
Musk emphasized the project’s importance, saying Tesla is “working hard on scaling Optimus.” He has predicted that Optimus could dominate Tesla’s future, previously stating that the robot will make up about 80 percent of the company’s value and that it would be “overwhelmingly the value of the company.”
Beyond financial impact, Musk highlighted Optimus’s transformative potential, calling it “the biggest product of all-time by far” and comparing it to “having your own personal C-3PO and R2-D2.”
As Tesla continues to tackle technical challenges, the company remains focused on bringing the ambitious humanoid robot to wider production, aiming to redefine both the company’s future and everyday human life.
